Engines and Blog Directories and RSS Directories

Once your Blog is created, you can submit it to the leading search engines and Blog directories that help to index your Blog and make it more visible to the world. There are a number of such search engines and Blog directories on the Internet and you can easily find a list of them in Google Search. We all know about the major search engines on the web, namely: Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, Ask, etc. These major search engines are important for all webmasters to be listed in as they can generate a lot of traffic. Basically, around 90% of the traffic that will come to your Blogs will be from the search engines all over the world. The people who are searching for something rely on these major search engines for results that can be depended upon. For example, a major search engine like Google.com is more likely to be well maintained, upgraded and one that will keep pace with the growing web technological advances. Google: www.google.com

When you create a Blog all the search engines will find it sooner or later. However, it may take some time since there will hardly be any traffic or backlinks guiding the search engine to your Blog. Manually submitting your Blog to the Google Search improves your chances of being indexed earlier than usual as well as getting a high ranking. Under normal circumstances, the search engines only index your Blog when there are some other web pages linking to it. Creating back links is the best way to get the website indexed faster on Google search that is by linking your Blog to other web sites or Blogs or web pages. Google search engines have a "crawler" based service that crawls the pages on your site for new content and indexes it. To learn more about how you can optimize your pages for these "crawlers" so that you get a higher ranking, you can refer to this link:

Submit Your URL:

Google provides an "Add URL Page" that lets you submit your URLs directly to these crawlers. However, you need to remember that by submitting your URL there is still no guarantee that Google will include your URL in its list. In this manner, you can submit not only your "Home Page" of your Blog or Website, but also the individual posts or pages separately. This will ensure that the crawlers can find a way to your site one way or the other.

Submitting your URL to Google is very easy. Just go to the' following URL: http://www.google.com/addurl/.

 Blog Directories

Submitting or getting your Blog listed in any of the top Blog directories will definitely increase your chances of being noticed, getting traffic and also being ranked high on the Search Engines. There are plenty of Blog directories to choose from. Blog directories are websites that list various Blogs under different categories and rank them according to their popularity, the amount of traffic they generate and the content that is posted. One of the most popular Blog directories is Technorati and we will see how we can use Technorati to our favour.

Submit Your Blog on Technorati

According to Wikipedia, Technorati is an Internet search engine for searching Blogs. By the year 2008, Technorati had indexed about 112.8 million Blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media. Technorati is a very powerful search engine for Blogs and getting your Blog listed in it will highly improve its page ranking and also help in creating back links, as it allows your fans to "favourite" your Blog if they like it. In addition the Add This button provides for bookmarking your content on Technorati and other users can do so right from your Blog. The site provides for automatically updating your account and you do not have to manually submit your Blog or post every time you update it.

Register online at http://technorati.com/ for a free account. Technorati is the place where you can follow the "Blogosphere" and see what are the hot topics on all the top Blogs. You can also browse the "Blog Directory" for Blogs in all categories. News, views and opinions from the top rated Blogs are featured on the front page. You can even follow technorati on Twitter. This is important if you want to follow the latest "trends" in the Blogging world. "Trendy" topics are those hot topics that are being searched for and talked about the most on the Internet at that particular point in time. Therefore writing about trendy topics will get you indexed and noticed sooner, as well as get you more traffic. (Although there is also a danger of these topics being very short lived as well).

Claim Your Blog on Technorati.

Step1.

Once you have registered for a free account, you will be asked to activate your account from the e-mail that you provided. Sign in again through the link provided and your account is activated. Click on your name above to open a page with all your details. This is your profile page and here you can fill in all your particulars, bio, upload an image (optional). Just below the form is the text box against the words "Start a Blog claim". Enter your Blog URL in the box provided and click on "Claim" button.

Step2.

You will now land on a new page where you can "Claim a New Blog". Fill in all the particulars of your Blog into the required fields, describing your Blog and its contents. Also you will be asked to provide some "Tag words" that best describe your Blog. Enter these words after some careful deliberation as to what you want your Blog to be searched for. Your feed URL will also be required now since Technorati will be updating its content automatically and the website does this through your Feed. If you have already linked to some other Blogs through link exchange or Blog roll you can specify these too in the claim page.

Once you have filled in all the particulars as required, submit the form. Your claim process will take a few days to complete as Technorati will first send a small code in your e-mail that you will be required to add into your Blog post somewhere, so that Technorati can check out your claims and after verifying that all is well, you will be intimated by an e-mail when your claim is approved.

When your Blog is listed with Technorati, you can see the details anytime by clicking on your account name after logging in. Technorati has an "Authority" system by which they decide how popular the Blog is. They use different metrics to decide the authority of a particular Blog that may include other Blogs linking to yours, comments on your post, the frequency of your posts, etc. Based on the Technorati authority of the Blogs, Technorati assigns a ranking to the top 100,000 Blogs. Technorati lists the Top 100 Blogs amongst all, as well as in each category. When you open your profile page you will be able to see the rank and authority of your Blog. Do not sweat if you do not find any rank. It takes time to build up the authority and get a rank within the top 100,000 Blogs.
