Field Beans in Gravy


3-4 tbsp oil

2-3 cloves garlic, crushed

2-3 green chillies, chopped

A few curry leaves

250 gm field beans, soaked and sprouted

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

Salt to taste

1 tsp sugar

Juice of 1/2 a lemon

To Garnish

Finely chopped coriander and grated coconut


1. Heat three tablespoons oil in a saucepan and fry garlic, green chillies and curry leaves for one minute. Add sprouted beans and mix well so that the oil coats the beans.

2. Mix half a cup of water with one tablespoon of oil, turmeric powder and soda. Add this to the field beans. Cook on a medium flame until soft. Add salt, sugar and lemon juice.

3. Garnish with coriander and coconut and serve hot.
