Matsyasan

Sit in padmasana. Then lie down backwards while taking support of the hands resting on the elbows. Bend the neck backwards as much as you can. The back and the chest should be raised while the knees should touch the floor. The left foot should then be held with the right hand and the right foot with the left hand. When this as ana has been mastered, the forehead can also be made to touch the ground. One may come back to the normal position or lie down in shavasana by bringing the hand and shoulders on the ground and stretching the legs.

This asana strengthens the nervous system, kidneys, stomach and intestine. It is helpful in asthma and lung disease and cures ocular defects. It is effective for ailments of the throat like tonsil diseases. The spine becomes resilient and cures constipation. It activates the intestine and cures stomach problems. The displacement of the navel is cured and is prevented by the practice of this asana. It is also very useful for diabetic patients and it also cures aching knees and the back. It cures maladies of the uterus. The menstrual flow becomes regular and normal. Dryness of skin lessens down and the skin becomes smooth and the face becomes radiant. This asana is very helpful in problems related to women. With the help of this asana, one can swim in water and take rest on water.
